THE LOWER RIO GRANDE BASIN ADJUDICATION



On Sept. 12, 1986 Elephant Butte Irrigation District, hereinafter EBID, filed suit for a ajudication of the southern portion of the Rio Grande in New Mexico. An adjudication is the legal process to determine by court order who has the right to use the waters of a stream system. This suit is called the Lower Rio Grande Stream Adjudication and will adjudicate all the rights to use surface and ground water of the Rio Grande basin from Elephant Butte south to the state line and border with Mexico.
